Uncovering Impacted Teeth
An important part of the health of your smile is the way that your teeth grow in. Beginning in childhood, teeth are watched over and guided to help them erupt properly. Sometimes, complications can occur as a tooth grows. One of the most common growth problems is an impacted tooth. An impacted tooth is a tooth that is improperly positioned underneath your gums, making it highly unlikely that the tooth will be able to grow in correctly. Very often this is associated with baby tooth that does not fall out on its own.
At the early signs that a permanent tooth is impacted the dentist or orthodontist will take an x-ray to determine the location of the tooth. Very often an orthodontist will position the other teeth to make space for the impacted tooth to come in. At that point our talented periodontist, Dr. Monica A. Flynn, can uncover the impacted tooth and bond an orthodontic bracket to it so that the orthodontist can connect it to the rest of the braces and guide it into place. If the baby tooth is still there Dr. Monica A. Flynn will extract it before uncovering the impacted tooth.
